The Chennai District Co-operative Union Limited No. XN 847 is registered as a Co-operative Society under the Tamil Nadu Co-operative Societies Act 1961 (Tamil Nadu Act 53 of 1961).
The area of operations of the District Union shall be confined to the Chennai District.
Co-operatives started out as small grassroots organisations in Western Europe, North America and Japan in the middle of the last century.
However, the Rochdale Pioneers are regarded as the prototype of the modern co-operative society and the founders of the Co-operative Movement.
