Tamilnadu State Apex Cooperative bank (TNSC bank)

The history of the TNSC bank is really of the cooperative credit movement in the state. This bank was registered in 19/10/1905 and commenced its operations in 1906 . In the year 1987-88 onwards the bank is functioning under the present name. The TNSC bank is an apex society and looking after the short term credit needs of the all the cooperatives in the state. The short term credit structure is a 3 tier structure. All the 23 district central cooperative banks act as the middle layer and the 4522 PACS and 120 urban banks will be the bottom level societies.

Tamilnadu State Cooperative Marketing Federation (TANFED)

Understand the need for an apex federation to augment the activities of the cooperative marketing societies, madras state cooperative supply and marketing society was established on 1/2/1959. About 110 Agricultural Producers Cooperative Marketing Societies are functioning under the TANFED. Besides marketing of agricultural commodities independently and with coordination with its member societies, it is also one of the main wholesalers engaged in distributing chemical fertilizers and supplying it through PACS and marketing societies. Further it is also manufactures mixed fertilizers through its factory at Panini village in Thiruvarur district.

Tamilnadu Cooperative Union (Read it's detail history)

This apex organization was established by a group of 13 cooperators under the leadership of Mr.Dewan Bahadur P.Rajaratna Mudaliar in the year 1914. All the apex cooperative societies and all the district cooperative unions are the members of this union. The main activities of the union is cooperative education, training, propaganda and publicity. TNCU is executing its duties through its 29 member unions. Apart from this, it runs 20 cooperative training institutes, 3 ITIs and a polytechnic college which imparts cooperative education and advance training to the cooperative staff and students. TNCU also imparts advanced short term training programmes to the cooperative staff through ICMs at Chennai and Madurai. Recently TNCU entered into an MOU with Bharathiyar University to impart degree courses to the students.

Tamilnadu State Cooperative state Agriculture and Rural Development bank (TNSCARDB)

The long term credit structure is a two tier one with the TNCARDB at state level and 181 primary Cooperative and Rural Development Banks (PACARDBs) at the taluk level/ block level. these credit institutions provides credit to its members or long term investment purposes in the agriculture sector like minor irrigation, poultry keeping, dairying, sericulture etc., Besides under the normal lending program items like repairs to wells, laying pipelines, purchase of tractor , power tillers etc are covered. TNCARDB raises the funds needed for its loaning operations through debentures and refinance from NABARD.

Tamilnadu Consumer Cooperative Federation (TNCCF)

Tamil Nadu Consumer Cooperative Federation at Chennai is the apex body. For the past 15 years, its main business has been to procure paper and other stationery materials in bulk and to distribute them to the district cooperative wholesale stores, primary cooperative stores and cooperative printing presses. The Federation also coordinates bulk purchase of crackers during the festival season for sale through cooperative wholesale stores, primary stores and societies, to the public. In 2008 -09 the Federation has initiated purchase of onions from Nasik through SNX for sale through Cooperative Wholesale Stores throughout the State at a rate lower than the local market rates. Federation has also become a member of SNX exchange so as to source fresh vegetables and fruits from all over the country. About 34 district consumer cooperative stores are the members of this federation

Tamil Cooperative Housing federation

The housing societies in the state functions in a two tier structure in the state, the federation at state level and 837 primary housing societies and 196 taluk housing societies at primary level. Since inception till 31-3-2001, the Housing Federation has provided financial assistance to the tune of Rs. 3,359.06 cores for construction of as many as 10.12 lakh houses.

THE TRIPLICANE URBAN COOPERATIVE SOCIETY LIMITED(TUCS) (Read it's detail history)

Triplicane Urban Cooperative Society Ltd is the first consumer cooperative in the state and it was registered in the year 1904. Rt. Honb’le V.S.Sreenivasa Sastri was the first president of TUCS. from a humble beginning  of 14 members and Rs.310 as a share capital, it has grown into 103996 members and Rs.103.92 lakh share capital respectively. During 1925, the father of our nation, Mahatma Gandhi visited the society. In the year 1966 first self service super market concept was introduced by TUCS under the brand name of “Kamadhenu”. The present sale touches more than Rs.100 cores per annum. Besides consumer business, it undertakes a big role in the public distribution system of the state. it also a pioneer in distribution of gas cylinders in chennai city through its 20 branches since 1969.

Chennai Central Cooperative Bank (CCB)

This district level bank was established in the year 1930. This is one of the biggest and sound central cooperative banks in the state. As on date, it functions with 64 branches throughout Chennai city. It is the major banker for over 500 cooperatives in Chennai city. It also a banker for the multi state cooperatives. As on date the bank is having a deposit to the tune of Rs1426 cores and having 444 cores as its own funds. The present working cp[ital of the bank is 2001 cores and has advances Rs.1444 cores as loans.
