1)Engineer Cooperative societies:

     This type of societies was formed by a group of unemployed Engineers with BE qualification or Diploma in engineering qualifications. This type of societies competes with the normal contractors to undertake small construction and maintenance/ repair works in Government departments, Cooperative intuitions and in local bodies. The members of the society will be undertaking the contract work and will be paying ............  of the total cost of the work as service charges to the society. The money accumulated over years in these societies is being given as advance to its members to carryout contract works. There are two such societies’ functions in Chennai city. They are

• Modern Engineers Cooperative society: this society was formed in the year 1981 and has operational jurisdiction all over the state of TamilNadu
• Pearl Engineering Cooperative society: This society was formed in the year 1989 and have operational jurisdiction throughout the Chennai city.

These two societies are continues to function on profitable lines from inception and has given employment opportunities to 255 engineers over years.

2)Tamil Writers cooperative society:
          This type of society is a unique society functions with an aim to promote Tamil literature and to promote the welfare of the Tamil writers. This society funds writers to publish their writings

3)Labor contract cooperative society:
          This type of society was formed to give employment opportunities to uneducated backward class workers in getting labor contracts from Government of  quasi government organizations like local bodies, corporations etc.

4)Waste paper cooperative society:     
          This type of society was formed to help its members to get waste paper contracts from Government departments and from other sources. This society functions on profitable lines for the past few years”
